Total Recall Jessica Biel interview: “we were confused constantly”

One of the largest questions of either of the iterations of the Rekall story was asked of actress Jessica Biel during our visit to the entire Recall 2012 press junket. That query was on what preparations she did for a personality that could really well haven’t actually been real to anyone but Dennis Quaid, a fellow whose own struggles with the truth of his situation is the root for the entire plot of the film. Biel let or not it’s known that not just did she have many discussions with the director Len Wiseman on what stance she was to soak up her role, but even if she was real within the first place.

[Jessica Biel] If i’d be playing a figment of someone’s imagination – evidently, 100% – i’d still have prepared for that figment of imagination within the very same way that i’d prepare for someone who was absolutely real. From an inventive standpoint that wasn’t different – however the conversations that Len, Colin, and that i had, day by day, about ‘what is real, who’re you, what do you remember? What do you trust? Do I even trust you?’

[JB] The article that I asked Len forever was, ‘how do I trust this guy? Yeah, i understand how he trusts me, but how do I trust him?’ He was constantly talking me through that. Because i suspect that’s just as hard for her to simply accept because it is for Colin’s character – to simply accept this random person showing up in his life.

It was hard, it was hard to – style of – walk that line of ‘are we confusing everybody? We’re confused.’ We were confused constantly – *laughs* – about what the hell, we were doing. And fortuitously Len figured it out. Thank god he figured it out and it isn’t confusing anyone else even now.
