Total Recall Kate Beckinsale interview shows love (and distrust) of sci-fi and action
With the subsequent giant science fiction blockbuster Total Recall (2012) headed to theaters this summer (out now, in actual fact), SlashGear took the chance to talk with Kate Beckinsale on her role because the main villain. Because it seems, Beckinsale doesn’t just find herself in a chain of action movies because she’s custom-built for the role, it has got lots to do along with her love for science fiction, fantasy, and the full action genre besides. Have a peek at why Beckinsale’s four brother’s had an awful lot to do with why you will be seeing her play Lori Quaid at the big screen this week.
Down in L. a. last month SlashGear got to talk with all the stars of the 2012 version of Total Recall in addition to the director Len Wiseman. With Wiseman’s interview revealing that he loved and still loves science fiction in a large way, it seemed only natural to invite Beckinsale the identical question – Are you a science fiction fan, and was sci-fi a little a part of your life growing up?
Sidenote: Wiseman is married to Beckinsale, so we needed to expect SOME type of connection. No getting clear of sci-fi when your husband is an die-hard fan (and a Die Hard director, puns galore), and you’re portion of a film series where you search out fantastic beasts at the regular (see: Underworld).

[Kate Beckinsale] I definitely was, I had four brothers growing up, so i used to be definitely exposed to these style of movies. Additionally it is more of the very fact, for me, that i am getting to play these strong female characters and this can be a good genre for that. People occur for that.
[Q] Do you and Len have any favorite films you need to share inside the science fiction genre or related genres?
[KB] Once we first met i used to be already a giant fan of the Alien movies, and that i was a large Die Hard fan until it ate my husband for 2 years. But I absolutely love those. And certainly one of my favorites has always been Dog Day Afternoon (1975), and Len loves that movie. All About Eve (1950) – so yeah, lets just sit here and put a kind of in.
You’ll find that Beckinsale plays precisely the style of character that made her desirous about the genre inside the first place here in Total Recall – a powerful female lead. But what’s different here, this time, is that she’s not the hero. Truly it is the opposite, together with her role taking where of Sharon Stone’s 1990 appearance because the quickly-divorced wife of Schwarzenegger. Regarding her rather intense fist fights with any other main characters of Total Recall within the film, specifically with Jessica Biel, Beckinsale had a chunk to claim at the new generation.
[KB] These don’t seem to be fights between two women that occurs in some sexy way. They’re quite vicious. i feel it shows that ladies have really come a ways on this genre of movie. i do know after I put my timid little nose into Underworld to peer if i may do it, i used to be in quest of references.

[Q] Do you are feeling as if you’ve perfected your craft in having been in such a lot of action movies with Underworld et al?
[KB] Well it’s funny. Yes and no – now i’ve got that added terror of going ‘I still feel just like the individual that is not doing this, and everybody is acting around me as though I’m a nasty-ass.’ And that i still feel like – this still seems like a stretch.
[KB] But this is often something it is incredible, and that i get to try this – you realize – i am getting wonderful teachers to aid me, and it’s amazing. Nonetheless it still sounds like, it is a reach for me. I still feel more well-off in a drama, i think like i do know it slightly better there. But still, that you need to be scared!
